[NZ] The University of Auckland English Language Academy : ELA update
Test Centre reopens
The ELA Test Centre is now open again for IELTS and PTE Academic testing!
We want to assure you we are taking every precaution to keep our test takers and our testing team safe during Alert Level 2. Our team is taking the following precautions:
- From Friday 22nd May, we will return to usual numbers allowing 1 metre social distancing
- Signing in and out forms for all staff and test takers to ensure accurate contact tracing
- Separate floors for all tests – no intermixing of test takers or staff
- Masks and gloves available for test takers and staff (though wearing of masks and gloves is optional, you do not need to wear these to take a test)
- Increased cleaning between and during tests
Face to face classes commence in June
New Zealand is now on Alert Level 2. Please see HERE for what Alert Level 2 means.
To ensure that we continue to prioritise the health and safety of all our staff and students, we will be taking a cautious, staged approach to resuming activities. This means that the majority of our staff will continue working from home until June.
Tuesday 2 June – We will commence teaching General English face to face.
Monday 29 June – We will commence teaching Academic English, and Pathway programmes face to face.
Please note that only students who are currently based in New Zealand can return face to face classes. Offshore students will be able to join face to face classes when travel bans are lifted. Online course delivery will continue until the end of 2020.
IELTS has launched IELTS Indicator, an online English language test for students not able to attend an IELTS test centre due to the Covid-19 related restrictions.
The University of Auckland accepts IELTS Indicator for 2020 and 2021 intakes. The ELA will also be accepting this for Pathway programme entry.
IELTS practice tests on ELA SmartLearn
Unique full length IELTS practice tests are now available to buy via our online test preparation platform SmartLearn Practice - with timing, flow and layout conditions like the real exam! These are marked within 3 days and personalised feedback given.
As we know the writing component of the test can be the most challenging for some, this will be marked with feedback provided by our ELA tutors who have many years of IELTS experience.
